Question by Kevin: How does a blacksmith prevent his work from fusing with his anvil?
I never understood how a blacksmith can beat and shape heated steel on an anvil without the piece fusing with the anvil itself due to the heat. Are anvils made of a different steel, or is there something the blacksmith coats the anvil with to prevent fusing?

The anvil is made out of high carbon steel, and the metal he/she is working with, is heated until the metal is soft, the anvil is not.
